Simmons Hall
From Wikitecture
Simmons Hall (completed 2002) is a dormitory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology designed by Steven Holl. It is also known as "The Sponge." In 2005, a competition was held for improvements to the building.
[edit] Concept
Holl designed Simmons Hall with the concept of porosity. At the smallest scale, this means perforated ceiling panels and furniture. At the largest scale, it means large atria that connect adjacent floors and large gaps in the building in elevation.
